At first glance the Nokia 5230 could be mistaken for any of its predecessors; the familiar slim style compares to that of the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia 5530. This is where the similarities end. This Nokia handset is one to rival the top end smartphones without actually being a one. It runs on the S60 Symbain operating system which is widely used in today's smartphones and it uses all the advantages of this operating system to the fullest. So why is it not a smartphone? Nokia smartphones are usually labelled Nseries or Eseries; these are aimed at business users and those who want the best in high end multimedia entertainment from their phone. The Nokia 5230 handset enters the market in a highly competitive price range and could be seen as a budget smartphone. The strong features of this handset surpass the other phones in this competitive price range. Nokia have crammed high specifications into this middle of the road handset.

Firstly there is the standard alphanumeric keypad which makes use of predictive text or multi-tap and can be used in both portrait and landscape view. Secondly there is a mini QWERTY keypad for use with fingers or the stylus and again can be used in both portrait and landscape. Lastly there is the typing optimised full QWERTY keyboard which can only be used in landscape mode.

Music & Networking - While not being advertised or sold as a music handset the 5230 does have a fully capable and functional music system. As said previous the Nokia 5230 takes advantage of all that S60 has to offer, this includes the media player which supports a wide range of formats. You can take your MP3, WAV and WMA music files and create playlists, organise and sort your music via the music library. This handset makes use of MicroSD memory cards for up to 16GB of storage space. The disk space in phone is only 70MB. Listening to your music with earphones is done via the standard 3.5mm audio jack so you are not limited by what headsets you can use with this phone. The handset supports Bluetooth 2.0 to allow for easy movement of music between PC and phone. The internet connection has a speed of up to 3.6Mbps via HSDPA support. Lastly the Nokia 5230 handset includes a FM radio which has a total of 20 programmable preset stations.

Online Services & Extras - Nokia's Ovi online digital suite is fully supported by the 5230 and this gives you access to a long list of features and online content, from music and mail to online storage and social networking; which can be easily accessed at any time. The connectivity of the Nokia 5230 has many methods, the HSDPA we mentioned earlier or GPRS, EDGE and HSCSD. To conclude, the Nokia 5230 handset is very impressive for its target price range and market, it might not be a top end smartphone but it isn't far behind and offers a wide choice of features commonly found on smartphones but at a cheaper, more affordable price.

What To Look For In A Gps Navigation System?

If you are in the market to buy a GPS navigation system and it is the first time that you have ever purchased one, it might seem a little confusing the first time out. But that does not have to be if you know what you needs are. Here you'll find a few of the best systems on the market to help you get a start.

A good one out on the market would be the Tom Tom Go 740. This nice little unit has some great features that include incident reports, traffic reports, five day weather reports, amongst others. All of this is powered by Google search and map. This particular model does seem to work faster than previous models.

You can get all your information in "real time" and it has its own instant messaging program where you can send all your details to all your family and friends via an instant message. Another nice feature is that you can go into the system and make changes. This especially comes in handy when there have been street name changes or location of business changes, etc.

The draw backs to this system is the fact that the response time to getting directions seems a little sluggish and the battery life is just little over two hours before it has to be recharged.

Garmin Nuvi 1690 is a GPS navigation system that actually offers free (ad supported) service from their NuLink data service which is a combination of ATandT and MSN Direct. For the first two years the service is ad supported and after that if you want to remove the ads you will be charged five dollars a month for their ad free service.

This GPS navigation device is packed full of features ranging from finding fuel prices to giving weather reports. A lot of the information can be gathered through Google search and their White Pages search. They also go as far as getting you flight information and movie information. This system also gives you the hands free service of Bluetooth.

The drawback with this particular model is that they changed their card reader to a microSD card reader so your standard SD cards will not longer work with the Garmin.

Tom Tom has another GPS navigation device called the Tom Tom XL340 S. This one is a little less expensive than their other model. Do not let the lower price fool you, it is still full of helpful features. It is a little bit larger than other models but if you like to be able to have better visual, then this model with its larger screen would probably be a good fit for you. Another nice feature is its voice to text feature, giving you complete hands free operation.

The most fun thing about the voice to text feature is that you can chose from a variety of different voice types like English, French and Spanish. And to top it off you can also download celebrity voices.

Magellan Roadmate 1470 is a one touch GPS navigation system that puts all the most used destinations and places of interests by others at your finger tips at all times. It includes all the same features as most systems and the response time is very quick with its touch screen that displays very easy to see large icons.

The way this unit has to be mounted in the car is a little bit awkward because the cable that is used to connect it seems to get in the way somewhat.

Ever looked all of the portable gps deals that are in the world? Gps systems are definitely a big hit in the universe today. With the right GPS system, you will never get stranded again.

Auto Gps System-Find The Best GPS System

Where am I suppose to turn?!

Do you find yourself saying those words often? If so then you should probably consider purchasing an auto GPS system. By using one of these systems, you can really make your life stress free on the road. Most people think that GPS systems only get you from point A to point B. However, they do much more than that. If your car broke down you can get roadside assistance, they will help you find food based off your preference, and some will even tell you entertainment around your area tonight. Some of these systems will even help you find the quickest route in a traffic jam.

The POI's (points of interest) are probably the most important thing when it comes to GPS systems and it is the first thing you should look at. For the most part, all the newest systems have a great number of POI's but you should still check just to be sure.

The next thing you will want to take a look at after the points of interest is the size of the screen. You need to decide whether you want to go with a big screen or a small screen. A screen that is somewhere between five to seven inches is perfect if you would like it to be big, if you want a smaller one then look for a screen around 2.5 inches.

If I were you I would typically try to stay away from the GPS systems that will allow you to play music through them because these are way more expensive and most cars already have the radio.

When purchasing a GPS system, you need to decide what you are going to be using it for. If you are in a situation where you have to drive around a lot it may be worth it to spend some extra money on one that will give you live traffic updates. If you are just using it to get to a house or find a building you probably will not be needing that feature.

The benefit of purchasing one of the newer GPS systems is the fact that they have a "text to voice" feature which means it will verbally tell you what street to turn on rather than just saying "turn in 500 feet". This is extremely important as it allows you to concentrate on the road rather than having to look at the screen.

Different Types Of GPS Devices

The capability to identify where you are, where you want to be, and how to get there was once best established through the use of a paper atlas. If you were travelling in your car then there is a good chance you utilized either an atlas or one of those huge tri-folded maps which really weren't much help while attempting to drive. Fortunately finding your way in the world nowadays is easier thanks to the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the different types of GPS devices that utilize it.

If you are thinking about how these GPS gadgets do what they do then read on. The Global Positioning System was created and applied by the United States Department of Defense when it started its first GPS satellite way back in 1978. Today there are 24 satellites in the GPS network that are the cornerstone of the whole system.

There are several different kinds of GPS devices that are designed to take advantage of this constellation of satellites. GPS mapping devices are used to gather points and any data attached to those points for mapping purposes. Actually these devices have been utilized for years to retrieve the data that creates the maps and mapping features used by other GPS navigating systems.

Which brings us to the very popular user GPS gadget: the GPS navigating system. The most familiar of these is the in-car GPS device that offers you map of where you are going and informs you through voice directions how to get there. These GPS devices are either installed in the cars dash or are transportable and can be moved between vehicles.

Some navigational units provide a feature whereby you can locate restaurants, shopping, hospitals, and motels not considering where you are; this can be incredibly useful when looking for services in a city with which you are new. The tinier versions of these navigational units are handheld devices that can be used by travellers, hunters, and other outdoor aficionados.

These types of GPS devices will monitor where you are, leave a breadcrumb trail of where you've been, and will guide you to where you want to go. Many of these units also feature built in cameras and voice recorders, allowing you to keep a list of your trips.
